wakeboarding in taal

the past couple of years wakeboarding is all the rage among watersports lovers, especially with the camarines sur watersports complex gaining popularity not only among locals but international wakeboarders as well. before camsur, lago de oro was the go-to place for wakeboarding. i have never been to lago de oro, i had planned to go but before i had the chance to, i stumbled upon a wonderful place in taal lake to go wakeboarding -- the boardinghouse.

inconspicuously located along the bank of the talisay side of the lake, with a gorgeous view of taal volcano, this cool getaway is actually a family resthouse.

the first time i visited the boardinghouse back in december 07 together with my friends, we met mark beltran whose family owns the resthouse. he was also our wakeboarding instructor. he started wakeboarding as a hobby and eventually decided to give wakeboarding lessons and open up their resthouse to guests.

the P1,700/hour (minimum of 3 hours), wakeboarding lessons rate (updated 2009 rate) included the use of the wakeboard, lifevests and the speedboat. it was fun learning to wakeboard in the boardinghouse, aside from having a very patient and thorough instructor, we were awestruck by the beautiful views while wakeboarding. it also helped that we were learning to wakeboard via speedboat and not via cable because it could adjust to our progress, it also helped that we were on a lake than on salty water, all the falls and tumbling onto the water didn't hurt the eyes that much.

since there were six of us waiting to wakeboard, and the speedboat should only carry up to five people - 3 students, 1 instructor and 1 driver, the rest of us went kayaking on the lake. they also had sailboats, banana boats, ski bobs and donuts to keep us occupied. those not too fond of the water can even enjoy themselves just lounging around the house and enjoy the fresh air - there's a view deck on the top floor of the house and the viewing deck/porch in front of the house by the lake.

the boardinghouse is a perfect getaway for an active weekend with friends or a quiet time with the family. its practically only in tagaytay, just a few minutes drive down to the yacht club then its on to an idyllic day by the lake, or weekend if you choose to spend the night at the boardinghouse.
